(All 7 Mayors agree)...The Mayors of seven cities in Imperial County support the Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors.
The Mayors are joining the Chairman to request that the state boost the allocation of COVID 19 vaccines to 8,000 doses per week. The letter sent by the mayors to Governor Gavin Newsom joins similar letters sent by the Imperial County Medical Society and the County Board of Supervisors. The letter says in a county with historically the highest unemployment rate in California, the loss of jobs is devastating and vaccines are necessary to have any chance of restoring the shattered economy and getting people back to work. The letter points out that while the population in Imperial County is approximately 191,000, there are an estimated 122,000 US citizens living in Baja California who are eligible to cross the border into Imperial County for the vaccine, as well as native Californians living in Arizona. The lettr was sent to the Governor, with copies also sent to Dr. Mark Ghaly, secretary of the California Health and Human Resources Agency, Congressman Juan Vargas, Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia and State Senator Ben Hueso.
