(Baja California Assembly Approves a New law)...It was submitted by Assemblywoman Trinidad Vaca.
The law requires a translator be present for those arrested and do not speak Spanish. Vaca said the bill was needed because of the number of foreign residents who visit Baja California. In addition, arrest reports must indicate the language spoken at the time of the arrest, and the language used to explain the charges or reasons for the arrest. The press report did not say what, if anything, would happen if the language requirements were not met.
