The Calexico Unified School District has filed suit against the City of Calexico.

The lawsuit claims the City of Calexico failed to ensure construction project applicants paid the District's school impact fees. Previously the District had filed a claim with the City over the issue and filed the lawsuit only after not hearing a response from the City. 

The Calexico Unified School District claims to have found discrepancies between the records of building permits issued by the City. The District says the City issued building permits , but neglected to require certification from the District that the school district had received payment of the required school impact fees. According to the CUSD , based on initial records , the City has not paid the approximately $1,000,000 impact fees required.
