The California Highway Patrol reports a pedestrian was killed in a traffic accident Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on Highway 98 west of Anderholt Road. According to the CHP , a man was walking eastbound in the westbound lane of Highway 98. A Volvo truck driven by Rafael Alvarado , 50 , of Mexicali , was westbound on the highway. Alvarado saw the pedestrian but was unable to stop the truck and struck the victim. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries. The dead man has not been identified. The accident remains under investigation. Alvarado was not injured.
