(Over 78 pounds of meth seized)...It happened late last week.
The meth was seized in two incidents. In the first a tan Toyota Solara drove up to the Highway 86 checkpoint. A Border Patrol Canine detection team alerted to the vehicle and it was sent to the secondary inspection area. During the inspection, agents discovered packages inside the rear quarter panels. The contents tested positive for methamphetamine. The driver, meth and vehicle were turned over to the DEA. The narcotics weighed over 68 pounds with an estimated value of $135,090. The second incident happened early Friday morning. Border Patrol agents responded to an area east of the Calexico West Port of Entry, where two individuals had entered the US illegally. While searching for the individuals they discovered a vest on the ground. The orange construction worker vest had multiple packages inside. The packages and the vest were taken to the Calexico Border Patrol Station, where the substance in the packages tested positive for methamphetamine. The substance weighed 10.58 pounds, with an estimated value of $23,805. The meth was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
