U.S. Border Patrol agents rescued a group of six illegal aliens lost in rugged terrain near Ocotillo.
On Friday morning at about 11:30 a.m. , agents working the mountainous area near Ocotillo in western Imperial County noticed smoke in an area described as notorious for smuggling humans and drugs. Agents hiked in to the area that is inaccessible to vehicles and , almost an hour after seeing the smoke , located six individuals , one of whom was severely dehydrated. The six were airlifted to a place where EMS personnel were able to treat the six. Members of the group told Border Patrol agents that they had been lost in the rugged terrain for three days and had started the fire in an attempt to signal help. All six , illegal immigrants from Mexico , were retuned to Mexico after treatment.
