The California Highway Patrol says it was a single vehicle collision
. The CHP received the call at just after 3:00 Friday morning. They say fire personnel were also called to the scene. The Highway Patrol says a 54 year old man from Victorville, California was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup. He was headed east on Interstate 8, near Mountain Springs Road. The CHP says for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the south road edge of the Interstate. It traveled across the right shoulder and down the embankment, impacting the mountainous terrain, and burst into flames. When the Highway Patrol arrived, they say the vehicle was fully engulfed. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. The CHP says they are continuing to investigate the collision.
