(Border Patrol rescues man)…It happened recently.
Agents were tracking a group in the Jacumba Mountain Wilderness, south of Ocotillo. The agents caught up to 7 individuals and determined they were in the US illegally. All were from Mexico. The agents realized one of the individuals, a 47 year old man, was in distress. He appeared to be severely dehydrated and suffering from a heat related illness. The temperature that day was 101 degrees, and the terrain was extremely dangerous. Agents requested air support and an Emergency Medical Technician. The EMT arrived and began treating the man. Air Support, however, could not land because of the terrain. Agents decided to carry the man out of the mountainous area. He was taken to Interstate 8, where Imperial County Fire and Rescue was waiting. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released. He was then transported to the El Centro Border Patrol station for processing. The other six were also processed for deportation
