The Imperial County Assessor is reminding business and personal property owner of the approaching filing date. He says statements received or postmarked after May 7th are subject to a statutory 10 percent late filing penalty. Ownership and taxability of business and personal property is determined as of January 1st of each year. Owners of businesses, financial institutions, multi-residential apartment properties, general aircraft or individuals who acquired a vessel in 2019 are required to file a 2020 property statement.
