(Canine sniffs out drugs)…It happened recently.
The Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents were working the Interstate 8 Immigration Checkpoint. A K-9 assigned to the Checkpoint alerted to a truck in the primary inspection lane. The truck and its driver were sent to the secondary inspection area. A more detailed search resulted in the discovery of 164 pounds of methamphetamine and about 3 pounds of fentanyl. The narcotics had been concealed in the gas tank, spare tire and both front fenders. The methamphetamine was valued at approximately $280,000. The Fentanyl was given a street value of around $39,000. The driver, a 60 year old female US citizen from Yuma, was arrested and charged with drug smuggling. The drugs and the vehicle were seized.
