(The first of two community meetings)…It was held Tuesday evening in Mecca.
The meetings are presented by the California Natural Resources Agency, the California Department of Water Resources and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The meetings are to discuss the State’s Salton Sea Management Program, developing plans to reduce dust from exposed lakebed around the Salton Sea. Updates are being provided on the program and other relevant topics and solicit community input on development of a Dust Suppression Action Plan. The Sierra Club and other activists attended the Mecca meeting. They raised concerns about the public health as a consequence of the state’s lack of action on the exposed lakebed and the toxic dust it creates. The second meeting will be held in Salton City, at the Senior Citizens Club, tonight at 5:30 pm.
