U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered 146 pounds of methamphetamine in two separate incidents Tuesday.
At about 11:26 a.m. Tuesday , a Cadillac CTS approached the Highway 86 Immigration Checkpoint near Salton City. A Border Patrol canine team alerted to the vehicle and the driver was referred to secondary inspection where agents discovered 44 packages concealed in the gas tank and another 15 packages in the rear doors. The packages contained methamphetamine total over 71 pounds with a street value estimated at $179,000. The driver ,a 28-year old woman , a Mexican citizen , was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
At about 3:36 p.m. Tuesday , a car was referred to secondary inspection. A canine team alerted to the car and a search found 34 packages concealed in the vehicles gas tank and 11 more packages were located in an aftermarket compartment in the floorboards. The packages contained nearly 75 and a half pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of over $188,000. The driver , an 18-year old Lawful Permanent Resident , was turned over to the DEA for further investigation.
