(CBP Weekend in Calexico)…They seized $335,000 of narcotics at the Calexico West Port.
Sunday evening Customs and Border Protection officers referred a Chevy Silverado and its driver to the secondary inspection area. The vehicle was screened through the port’s imaging system, and a canine team detected anomalies in the four tires. CBP officers searched the tires and discovered 24 wrapped packages of methamphetamine hidden inside metal canisters attached to all four tires. The narcotics weighed 132 pounds with a street value of about $211,000. A few hours later, two women in a 2000 Pathfinder entered the Port. They were sent to the secondary inspection area. A canine detection team alerted to the vehicle’s undercarriage. CBP officers discovered five packages of heroin, weighing 17 pounds. The estimated street value was set at around $124,000. The drivers of both vehicles were arrested and, along with the narcotics, were turned over the Homeland Security Investigations agents for further processing.
