An early Saturday morning traffic accident has resulted in charges against a Calexico City Council Woman.
According to the California Highway Patrol , at about 4:55 a.m. Saturday , a car driven by 62-year old Rosie Fernandez , a Calexico City Council member , was southbound on State Route 111 just north of McCabe Road at an estimated 70-80 miles per hour , when her car collided with a trailer being towed by a pick up truck. The truck driver , 52-year old Martin Pena , of Imperial , was not injured in the accident but arriving officers found Fernandez seat-belted in the driver's seat of her car. Subsequent investigation revealed Fernandez was under the influence of alcohol and she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Fernandez sustained moderate injuries and was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment. The accident remains under investigation.
