(Volunteers recognized)…Two are from Imperial Valley.
The American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties recently held their annual Volunteer Appreciation Night at Petco Park in San Diego. More than 20 regional volunteers were recognized for their hard work and dedication. Two of those recognized are volunteers from Imperial Valley. Seventeen year old youth volunteer Hashibe Serrano received the Rookie of the Year award. Hashibe was recognized for assisting with volunteer training and data entry for the Home Fire Campaign, assisting the Sound the Alarm, Save a Life program in reaching this year’s goal of installing 1,500 smoke alarms in Imperial County. Mariah Romero has volunteered with the American Red Cross for a year and a half and received the Imperial Valley’s Outstanding Volunteer Award. Just last year she was deployed to Florida for the Hurricane Michael response. She was deployed for 33 days. In May she was deployed to Mississippi for two weeks, assisting with disaster relief during the floods.
