The California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a Greyhound bus burning Tuesday afternoon.
The initial report was made at 4:15 p.m. and indicated there was smoke coming from the bus that was on westbound Interstate 8 near Ocotillo. Imperial County Fire Department responded along with Imperial County Sheriff's deputies and the CHP. The fire was extinguished by the bus driver before the arrival of the fire department but thirty five passengers were stranded in 100+ degree heat. They were transported to the Ocotillo Fire Station by Imperial Valley Transit who provided a bus to assist. No injuries were reported and there was no immediate information on the extent of damage to the bus. The Imperial County chapter of the American Red Cross was on scene to assist the passengers as well.
