A three vehicle collision sent four people to the hospital.
The accident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday on 8th Street and Treshill Road , just south of the railroad tracks. According to El Centro Fire Department Battalion Chief Cedric Cesena , one of the vehicles involved rolled over on the street and one occupant of that vehicle was pinned in the wreckage. A second vehicle was partially submerged in a canal with one occupant who was assisted out of the vehicle by bystanders. A third vehicle , with two occupants , was also involved. Chief Cesena said that ECFD firefighters responded to the accident with two engine companies , a rescue squad , and a Battalion Chief with a total of 9 firefighters. Imperial County Fire Department added two engines and a Battalion Chief with a total of 7 firefighters. The firefighters stabilized the vehicles , provided medical treatment and care and coordinated patient transport with AMR Ambulance and three ambulances and REACH Air Medical with two helicopters. Two people were transported by ambulance to local hospitals and two people airlifted to out of county trauma centers.
Chief Cesena said that other agencies involved included the El Centro Police Department , Imperial County Sheriff's Office Dive Team , Imperial Police Department and the U.S. Border Patrol's BORSTAR unit.
