U.S. Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ) wants public input on a proposed border barrier project in Imperial County.
CBP is looking to replace an approximately 15 mile segment of what they say is a dilapidated and outdated design. The proposed new barrier would be a bollard wall to replace the existing vehicle barrier and includes road construction and improvement as well as lighting installation. The proposed design of the new bollard wall includes 18 to 30 foot , concrete-filled steel bollards that are approximately 6" by 6" in diameter. The 15 miles of wall involved in the project includes 11 miles in Calexico , approximately 3 miles in Tecate and approximately 1 mile in Andrade.
CBP is seeking input regarding the proposed project's potential impacts on the environment , culture , and commerce , including potential socio-economic impacts and quality of life. Comments and information will be accepted until Monday , June 3, 2019.
