El Centro Police arrested a man for burglary.
According to El Centro Police reports , Tuesday afternoon at about 1:30 p.m. , officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress call in a Barbara Worth Avenue apartment complex. Initial information from the homeowner was that as she got out of the shower she found a man had entered her apartment. The suspect was described as wearing all black and was last seen running out the front door and jumping from the balcony. Witnesses said the man was carrying a hammer and a knife. The suspect was seen running northbound from the apartment complex and into a nearby trailer park in the 1500 block of Adams Avenue. . A search of the area located the suspect getting into a parked car. The suspect ran from the vehicle and was caught a short distance away. The suspect violently resisted officers , spitting and attempting to bite the officers. He was ultimately taken into custody , transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center where he continued to fight with personnel. The suspect was identified as 36-year old Robert Straus of El Centro. A search of the area around the crime scene turned up a hammer , knife and screw driver discarded by Strauss. The suspect was booked into Imperial County Jail on charges related to burglary , battery , obstruction and a parole violation.
