The California Highway Patrol is investigating an accident reported at about 6:15 a.m. Tuesday at State Route 78 west of the Highway 86 connector.

A vehicle ran off the road and ended up about 10 feet down a ditch. A utility pole was sheared off in the accident and a woman was trapped inside the vehicle for a short time. One person was reported to have suffered major injuries.  The accident remains under investigation.
