(Seniors again the target of scammers)….This time it involves Social Security recipients.
Fake calls are being made to recipients claiming there is a problem with their social security checks. The scammers leave a number for the victim to call. The Social Security says don’t call the number. It is a scam. If there is a problem with a social security account, the recipient would be advised by mail. Not by phone. This is the latest in a long series of scams. The Imperial Irrigation District has reported several scams, the Sheriff’s office has reported problems, as well. The latest is the Drug Enforcement Administration reporting scammers posing as DEA agents or other law enforcement officers. The social security is asking victims to report any phone calls they receive involving the recipients account.
