(CBP Releases numbers for this fiscal year)….Customs and Border Protection says the numbers are record setting.
The numbers were released earlier this month. The CBP says Family Unit Aliens are crossing the southwest border in record numbers. This fiscal year to date, the CBP says they have seen a more than 300 percent increase in the number of family units apprehended compared to the same time period in fiscal year 2018. They say this year, family units and unaccompanied alien children make up 60 percent of apprehensions that have occurred along the southwest border and are predominantly from Central America, namely Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. They say there have been 70 large groups of 100 or more individuals totaling 12,069 apprehensions, compared to what border patrol encountered in Fiscal year 2018, which was 13 large groups, and in Fiscal year 17, which was only two. A Centralized processing center has been set up in El Paso, Texas with increased care for the increased numbers while they await disposition of their cases.
