(Bermuda Fire about 20% contained)….That was the report Monday morning.
The fire is burning about 15 miles North of Yuma. The blaze began at around 3:00 am Saturday morning. It has burned approximately 320 acres. Fire officials say most of the fire has burned through marshy areas, igniting cattails and salt cedar. They say the salt cedar burns very hot and can remain hot long after the fire appears to be out. Due to the sandy soils in the river corridor, there can be additional fuels burning underneath the surface. These fuels, covered by sand, can create very hat cavities and can collapse. They say falling into one of these hidden cavities can lead to serious burn injuries. They are asking the public to stay away from t5he burned areas. A multi-agency effort is underway combating the blaze, including the Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Forest Service, Buckskin Fire Department and Arizona State Fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No reports of injury.
