The California Highway Patrol is investigating a traffic accident that claimed the life of an elderly Heber woman.

The accident was reported at about 6:18 p.m. Saturday near Heber Avenue and Main Street in Heber. The 86-year old woman was walking from her home to church and was headed southwesterly crossing Heber Avenue just north of Main Street. A car driven by Concepcion Ahumada was southbound on Heber Avenue and struck the pedestrian. The victim was flown to a Coachella Valley hospital where she was pronounced dead. The accident remains under investigation but the CHP says that alcohol and / or drugs are not a factor in the collision. The identity of the victim has not been released.
