A pilot attached to the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron , the Blue Angels , had to make an emergency landing Tuesday.
According to the Navy , the pilot made the emergency landing at Naval air Facility El Centro when the F/A - 18 Hornet's main landing gear did not extend on approach to NAF El Centro following a training flight.
The pilot , who was not identified , was able to land the aircraft without injury to himself or any ground personnel. The cause of the mishap is under investigation.
The Blue Angels conduct their winter training at NAF El Centro through mid-March as they prepare for the upcoming air show season.
