(USGS adjusts the magnitude)…The early morning earthquake has been downgraded.
The quake struck at 5:48 Thursday morning. It was originally reported as a magnitude 4.1. The US Geological Survey has since downgraded the magnitude to 3.9. The minor to moderate temblor struck about 12 miles southeast of Ocotillo Wells. The USGS says it was on the San Jacinto fault, one of the most active faults in California. They said a 3.9 to 4.1 earthquake is not unusual on the San Jacinto fault, and it is not necessarily a prelude to any more quakes. The Thursday quake was felt in San Diego and Orange Counties, as well as almost all of Imperial Valley. No damage or injury has been reported.
