(As promised Romaine Lettuce warnings narrowed)…The original E.Coli warning covered all harvested Romaine Lettuce.
This threatened local growers, who had not yet started their harvest. The FDA and CDC have issued new warning, focusing on California’s Central Coast region. The Harvest is now shifting to Arizona, Florida, Imperial Valley and Mexico. The new warning does not include those areas. New labeling must now indicate the date harvested and the location. All lettuce harvested after November 23rd and not from the Central Coast region of California can be marketed without warning. The warning does not include romaine lettuce grown in greenhouses, either.
