(Off-road collision)…There were fatal injuries to one.
The single vehicle collision was reported Saturday morning near Glamis. A dune buggy, driven by Daniel Dodd of Desert Hot Springs, was traveling across the open desert. The California Highway Patrol says a 44-year-old Bermuda Dunes resident was a passenger in the vehicle. The CHP says Dodd apparently did not see a raised berm. The dune buggy, traveling at around 35 miles per hour, hit the berm and was launched into the air. The vehicle overturned end over end, ejecting the passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt. The un-named man suffered head trauma and succumbed from the injuries. Dodd was wearing a lap belt and suffered a broken arm. He was transported by ambulance to Pioneers Memorial Hospital for treatment. The Highway Patrol said alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the incident.
