(Thousands of Central Americans are walking across Mexico)…Their destination is the United States.
How many people are coming is not known. The numbers vary from 2,000 to over 5,000. President Trump has indicated the mostly Honduran and Guatemalan residents will not be welcome when they arrive. He has asked Mexico to stop the human caravan, and indicated that if they could not, he would be willing to send military troops to secure the border, even closing the southern border if need be. The head of the military, General Mattis has said up to 800 troops could be sent. The County Board of Supervisors do not support that plan. This week the Board agreed closing the border would be catastrophic to the economy in Imperial County. The Supervisors adopted a proclamation denouncing any plan to shut the borders for any reason. If the caravan of people makes it to the US Border, they are not expected to arrive until December.
