(Unemployment up slightly)…The latest jobless rate is for August.
According to the report, unemployment in Imperial County was at 20.3 percent. That is up from a revised 19.1 percent in July. The numbers are provided by the Labor Market Information Division of the Employment Development Department. The August numbers are down from the year-ago estimate of 22 percent. The 20.3 percent compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 4.3 percent for the state and 3.9 percent for the nation during the same period. According to the report there were 15,000 eligible workers unemployed in August out of a labor force of 73,900. During August, Imperial County was the only county in the state with a double-digit unemployment rate.
