(The party this weekend is in Mexico)…The Country is celebrating their Independence from Spain.
Unlike the United States, Mexico celebrates the beginning of their fight for Independence, not the finish. Father Miguel Hidalgo delivered the call to arms, known as the Grito de Dolores on September 16th 1810. The actual victory came in 1820. The country celebrates with a weekend of events. The main event is the Grito at midnight September 15th, delivered by the President of Mexico, State Governors and even Mayors of the various cities. Mexicali has a large Celebration all weekend, with most of it Sunday at the Centro Civico.
