(Remembering 9/11)…It was 17 years ago
. Terrorists, using hijacked airplanes, attacked. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers in New York. Almost 3,000 people were killed, including 343 firefighters, 72-law enforcement and 55 military personnel. September 11, 2001 was remembered throughout the nation. In Imperial County remembrance and tributes began Saturday with the 5th annual stair climb at the IV Expo. Volunteers, mostly firefighters, climbed the equivalent of 110 stories as a tribute to those who lost their lives. A Ceremony Tuesday morning was held at Imperial Valley College. The Naval Air Facility also held a private ceremony for base personnel only at NAF. In Yuma, the fire department places flags, one for each firefighter lost in the tragic attack.
