For the second time in less than a week a big rig caught fire on Mt. Springs grade.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the report of a tractor-trailer rig on fire on eastbound Interstate 8 near Mt. Springs Road at about 5:53 p.m. Sunday. The fire resulted in the closure on one lane of the eastbound Interstate 8 as the Imperial County Fire Department extinguished the blaze. The contents of the truck needed to be off loaded to fight the fire. The closure remained in effect for several hours. The incident remains under investigation.
On Tuesday , a big rig fire shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8 for approximately 8 hours with traffic backed up from Ocotillo to Jacumba.
