The California Highway Patrol says there were 3 separate accidents involving big rigs Thursday after and all were weather related.
At about 4:15 p.m. Thursday a tractor-trailer rig driven by Sukhjit Samra , 27 , from Alberta , Canada , was northbound on Highway 86 north of Air Park Road. Another big rig driven by Rashpal Singh , 61 , from Turlock , California was also northbound on Highway 86 near Harvard Avenue and a third big rig , driven by 59-year old Jose Cervantes of Heber , California , was southbound on Highway 86 near Harvard Avenue when a microburst of high winds blew over the trailers of all three vehicles. Both north and south bound lanes of the State Highway were blocked for several hours as crews worked to clear the roadway. Cervantes was the only one injured as he sustained a laceration to his head and elbow. The California Highway Patrol , U.S. Border Patrol , Imperial County Sheriff's Office and Bureau of Land Management officers cooperated on the incident. The accident remains under investigation.
