Heavy rain and high winds swept through the Imperial Valley Saturday into Sunday morning.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel dropped more than two inches of rain on parts of the county. High wands accompanying the storm felled trees and power lines. According to the Imperial Irrigation District, by Sunday afternoon, power had been restored to more than 2,000 customers in Imperial and Coachella Valleys, over 90% of the customers affected. According to the Imperial County Public Works Department, road closures due to storm damage include Dunaway Road from Interstate 8 to Even Hewes Highway, ole Road from Dogwood to Kloke, McCabe from Yourman to Bowker, Kubler Road from Clark to Ferrell Road, Boley Road from Huff to Hetzel Road. Ogilby Road between Interstate 8 and Highway 78 has experienced several washouts and is closed. Imperial Highway from Sweeney Pass Road to the Desert Museum is closed. State Route 98 has reopened after flooding shut down the highway for several hours. Eastbound Interstate 8 by Jeffrey Road had one lane closed for several hours due to flooding.
