The Imperial Irrigation District has issued a Conserve Alert.

Due to prolonged high temperatures and high energy demand, the IID is asking customers to reduce energy use during peak hours. The Conserve Alert will go into effect at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, through 10:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27. IID does not anticipate and generation resource shortages. However, conserving energy during peak hours of 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. can help reduce strain on the electric grid. IID customers in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys can help by:

Avoiding the use of major appliances, including washers, dryers, dishwashers, electric vehicle chargers and industrial equipment between 4pm and 9pm.

Setting thermostats to 78 degrees or higher.

Turning off unnecessary lights.

Using floor or ceiling fans.

Closing shades, blinds and drapes to help keep homes cooler.
