The Imperial Irrigation District will overhaul El Centro Generating Station Unit 4.
The $9.2 million project will see a complete overhaul of the units steam turbine and generator, including inspections, testing, repairs and replacement of components where needed. Unit 4 has been in commercial operation since 1968. The unit provides about 70 megawatts of local generation capacity. According to the district, the project will help ensure the unit continues operating safely and reliably while supporting key electric system needs, including voltage support, reserve capacity and grid stability. Work is expected to continue through 2027.
