(City Council agrees to put sales tax increase on the ballot)....The El Centro City Council voted unanimously.

A half-cent sales tax increase will be on the November Ballot. The vote was on this week's agenda. If approved, the measure is expected to generate about $8.4 million for the General Fund. Since it is for the General Fund, the measure will only need a simple majority to be approved. The General Fund pays for day-to-day operations and core services, including police, fire, public works, parks, city administration, community programs, roadway and sidewalk maintenance. Services are more expensive to provide, while revenue sources are decreasing. That is the reason the council gave for the need to approve the half cent sales tax. The General Municipal Election will be November 3rd.
