The Imperial irrigation District presented a resolution urging Congress and the White House to prioritize Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reform while strengthening the Federal Governments role in disaster response.
The resolution was presented at the annual Legislative Rally held by the American Public Power Associations Legislative and Resolutions Committee. IID Director Alex Cardenas, the 1st Vice President of the Associations Policy Makers Council said that the resolution highlights the critical role public power utilities play on the front lines of disaster response, restoring service and supporting recovery efforts for more than 54 million customers. The action supports pending legislation that would streamline FEMA's Public Assistance process, expedite reimbursement for emergency work, and reduce regulatory risk for communities recovering from disasters.
