(City of El Centro announces new pedestrian safety upgrades)....The upgrades are on Imperial Avenue and they are active starting Monday, February 23rd.

New Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons will be active at Imperial and Holt Avenue and Imperial and Barbara Worth Avenues. The beacons are designed to improve pedestrian safety while maintaining efficient traffic flow. Pedestrians are instructed to push the button to activate the beacon. Wait on the sidewalk until the traffic stops and the walk sign appears. When the walk sign appears, cross within the countdown timer when safe. The timer will show how much time is left to cross. Drivers, when the yellow lights start flashing, prepare to stop. The solid yellow light indicates slow to a stop. Remain stopped during the duration of the red light. During the flashing red light, proceed slowly only when the crosswalk is clear. Proceed without stopping when the lights are off.
