Partial human remains found near Salton City have been identified.
On Sunday, December 21, 2025, Imperial County Sheriff's deputies responded to the area of Portsmouth Avenue and Newhaven Court in the area of Vista Delmar after reports of a human leg being found in the area. The Imperial County Coroner's Office took over the investigation. The leg was sent to the county's forensic pathologist for examination. Over the next several weeks the Coroner's Office and ICSO Scientific Investigations Unit, together with outside agencies, attempted to develop a DNA profile and then searched for possible matches. These attempts were unsuccessful. On Friday February 6, 2026, the ICSO Scientific Investigations Unit received a positive match and were able to determine the remains were from a female. Using information from a case involving a missing juvenile potentially being in the Salton City area, the mother of the missing juvenile provided a DNA swab for comparison with the DNA of the remains. That comparison showed a positive match for the remains. According to the Imperial County Sheriff's Office, this is an ongoing investigation, and they are working with the Federal Bureau of Investigations on this case. The missing juvenile has been identified as T'Neya Tovar, 17, who was reported missing in Riverside County
