(IID and the City of Indio break ground)...The Groundbreaking Tuesday was for the first of four major energy projects.

The four major energy infrastructure projects will collectively provide enough power to energize 16,000 single family homes worth in the City of Indio. Tuesday's ceremony marked the start of the Avenue 42 Substation Project. It is the first project planned under the partnership between the Imperial Irrigation District and the Indio Electric Financing Authority, which formed in 2023. The Avenue 42 Substation Upgrade Project, estimated at $12 million, will add a third transformer bank to the existing facility. Construction is expected to be completed by late August 2026. The other projects include: The Avenue 40 Substation, Carreon Substation expansion and Northgate/Avenue 43 project. In total, the 4 projects will be an estimated $100 million investment to strengthen regional energy capacity and economy.
