(Imperial Valley Desert Museum is planning something different)....They are inviting the public to go on the journey with them.

In February the Museum will be honoring the man behind one of the California desert's most iconic landmarks. The museum will host the grand opening of Follow the Yellow Brick Road: The life and Legacy of Leonard Knight. That will be on February 6th. The exhibition, organized in partnership with Salvation Mountain, offers an intimate look iat the early works, personal journey, and enduring vision of the late folk artist. Knight, who passed away in 2014, spent nearly three decades building Salvation Mountain. in the lower Colorado Desert. What began as a small monument grew into a massive, multi-story hill of adobe, straw, and thousands of gallons of lead-free paint, dedicated to his simple message; God is Love. The opening celebration will be Friday, February 6 from 6-9 pm at the museum on 11 Frontage Road in Ocotillo. The exhibition will remain on display through June 3rd, 2026.
