The Imperial County Registrar of Voters has issued an alert about a recent change in Post Office policy.

According to the U.S. Postal Service, mail dropped off at post offices or collection boxes located more than 50 miles from a regional processing center may not be postmarked until the following day. Imperial County mail is sent to the Palm Springs processing hub. The delay could result in ballots mailed on Election Day receiving a postmark dated after Election Day. Under California law, ballots must be postmarked on or before November 4, 2025, to be counted. The Elections Department says you may deposit your ballot at any local official drop box, bring the ballot to any polling site on Election Day, or deliver your ballot directly to the Registrar of Voters Office in the County Administration building. If you are going to mail your ballot do so several days before Election Day to be safe.
