A Wednesday morning traffic accident resulted in fatal injuries to two passengers.

According to the Highway Patrol, at about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, a Chevrolet Avalanche was eastbound on Interstate 8 west of Dunaway Road. The driver, a 59-year-old woman, lost control of the pickup and it rolled over several times before landing in the center median of the freeway. As a result of the crash, a 70-year-old man and an unidentified woman, were ejected from the vehicle. Both died at the scene. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center's Trauma Unit for treatment. She was the only restrained person in the truck. After further investigation, the 59-year-old woman driver was placed under arrest for Suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.
