(CalTrans says highway is now open)...The latest report from the CalTrans website says Highway 86, North of Westmorland, is now open.
The Highway was hit hard by the recent storms. Severe flooding was reported near the Border Patrol checkpoint, Big Rigs were turned over by the flooding water. Several passengers vehicles were also involved. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The Highway was completely closed until around 7:30 Tuesday evening, when the southbound number 2 lane was opened to traffic. By Wednesday morning all lanes were open. The Imperial County Public Works Department says there are at least 18 roads that are closed around the county. It is due to debris, downed power poles, trees and more. All the roads will remain closed until further notice. Public Works is updating the list of roads on social media.
