The Jobless report was issued by the Labor Market Information Division of the Employment Development Department. According to the report. unemployment in Imperial County for May was at 17.4 percent. That is up from the 16.2 percent in April, and above the year ago estimate of 16.6 percent. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment Rate of 4.9% for California and 4.0 percent for the Nation during the same period. According to the report there were 12,900 eligible workers unemployed out of a local labor force of 73,900. Imperial County had the highest unemployment rate in the state in May.
