Yuma County Sheriff's Office deputies were on a routine helicopter patrol when their aircraft was shot.
The incident occurred at about 7:05 a.m. Friday, June 13, in Dateland. During the flight, deputies heard an impact sound in the YCSO Bell 505 helicopter and located debris inside the cabin. Deputies saw a subject standing on the ground and pointing at the helicopter. The deputies returned to the hanger and were able to locate a puncture consistent with a gunshot. The Yuma County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Bureau investigated and identified a suspect, Mubarak Prince, 51, of Dateland, Arizona. The YCSO Special Response Team along with the Yuma Police Department Special Enforcement Team, U.S. Border Patrol BORTAC, and Cocopah Police Department served a search warrant on the suspect's property. . Prince was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center on 3 counts of First Degree Attempted Murder.
