Former El Centro City Councilman Tomas Oliva is running for the state assembly.

Oliva took to social media to announce he is running for the State Assembly 36th district. Oliva served on the El Centro City Council from 2018 until his resignation in March of this year. He was Field Representative for Congressman Raul Ruiz, MD. Olivia holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from San Diego State University. He ran unsuccessfully for the Assembly seat in 2024. The 36th Assembly District encompasses all of Imperial County as well as parts of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, reaching from the border to Needles. The seat is currently held by Republican Jeff Gonzales.
