Two Imperial Valley schools were honored as 2025 California Distinguished Schools.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond recognized Holtville's Pine Elementary School and Ben Hulse School in Imperial. The Distinguished Schools program recognizes exceptional schools in two categories: those closing the achievement gap and those demonstrating exceptional student performance. The awards ceremony was held Friday in Sacramento. The two Imperial Valley schools are among the 381 schools recognized statewide.
